Winter Saturday :)

With a huge headake but we manage to watch today’s winter sports. First it was women’s downhill in Cortina d’Ampezzo, which was won by Maria Riesch (GER) who had an amazing run. Second was Julia Mancuso (USA) finishing 0.91 seconds behind Riesch. It was her first podium spot in a World Cup downhill in three years. You were probably wondering what about Lindsey Vonn (USA), well she had some run. She almost badly fell in the bottom section of the downhill but I think thanks to her experiance she was ok and finished third.

Then it was time for famous Kitzbuehel, which today wasn’t as lucky as yesterday. Siegmar Klotz from Italy had an awful accident and downhill was stopped for about 20 minutes. I don’t really know how he is, no news are available.

Didier Cuche (SUI) won today’s downhill with a great time – 1.57,72. He won the classic Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbuehel for the fourth time and therefore equalled the record of downhill victories on the Streif jointly held by the best two downhill skiers of all time, Austrians Franz Klammer and Karl Schranz.

“To be up there with such champions is a great reward but I would need to do lots more to be considered their equal,” said Cuche.

Unfortunatly no Austrians were on podium… Second was Bode Miller (USA) who showed that he’s back in shape and third place went to France’s Adrien Theaux, who pushed from the podium Mario Scheiber (AUT).
